WPPI, Las Vegas 2008
My oh my, what another wonderfully crazy year in Vegas for WPPI. For any of those that don’t know, it stands for “Wedding and Portrait Photographers International.” Every year there is a huge convention and trade show in Las Vegas with nearly 10,000 attendees. It’s always a great educational experience, and this year was no exception. It was awesome! And when you put that many photographers all together in one place, it can be a rowdy and fun bunch of people indeed! I attended some fabulous parties, hung out with some of my favorite people, both photographer friends from Denver and others that I mostly only see at industry conventions, and I modeled for a photo shoot!! Yes… it’s true. I let myself get talked into a very interesting (to put it mildly) situation with my Lensbabies friends out on the strip in front of Bally’s and The Bellagio. The only reason I was swayed into agreeing, after several futile attempts at refusal, was because the mastermind, Lisa Smith told me I was going to get to wear and jet pack and fly! (Can you say Miss Gullible?) And, I also didn’t know it was going to be a whole scene with a bunch of photographers until AFTER they already had me tied into it and bought clothes for me etc. But, at the end of the day, I just have to laugh at myself really! It’s pretty funny and definitely a once in a lifetime experience. It’s something I would never normally volunteer for in a hundred million years, but once “in character” I had to just go with it, and it was actually a lot of fun! For more on the urban legend that is now “Rocketgirl” click here to see the thread on the lensbabies site.
Ok, so a few photos… First the photo booth from the Super Swanky Swore, hosted by the ever so lovely (and clever), Lauren Hillary and Sara France. And btw, for all you photographers out there, if you didn’t catch the launch party for GOBEE bags, you’ve got to check out these bags! They are little hip purses to carry CF cards and they are awesome! I know I’m in line for one. Also, the first photo is with my friend, Robert Evans, (an amazing photographer and the mastermind behind PhotographyMentor.com which if you (photographers) haven’t checked out, it’s worth a look for sure!) and Krista Johns, the up and coming! The second is with my bud, Travis Broxton and Krista again. #3 is with lovely Lauren. And, just for kicks, I’ll share a couple of “rocketgirl” photos that people have sent my way from the shoot…
